The “Safe Haven” Law Objectives -
Prevent unnecessary deaths of newborns in the State of Florida.
Protect the anonymity of the parent(s).
Define “Safe Haven” for the safe disposition of newborns.
Reduce the incidence of abandoned newborns.
Reduce an additional burden on the legal system.
Select Hospitals, Fire/EMS departments as “Safe Haven” facilities which are non-threatening, properly trained, equipped and located throughout the Florida communities.
Positive outcomes:
A child's life is saved.
A mother or father is saved from a lifetime of guilt, anguish and possible criminal prosecution.
The hopes of a family waiting to adopt a child are fulfilled.
